“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
Pablo Picasso
Hello, and welcome to the first of my blog series!
My name is Lisa Samson-Gatto and I want to start out by expressing my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to share with you on this platform. My intention is to impart upon you the joy and serenity that making art can bring to your life. I will guide you to bring on this fun journey. I hope to inspire you to connect with your creativity in whatever way feels good to your soul. A natural born teacher, I will help you to align with the arts and your innate abilities.
As a trained artist and educator, I’ve worked with many different mediums and I love them all. I have to say, I am more of a fine artist than a crafty girl.
Both of my parents are creative individuals. My Mom is an artist and educator. Because of her, I spent a good chunk of my early years in an art museum while she taught Mommy & Me classes. My Dad, a talented photographer, taught me how to use his darkroom. Growing up, he played guitar, piano and the harmonica. So, art and music have always been my “go to” tools for self soothing.
My health journey brought me to another town whereby I didn’t have access to my art materials. Also, due to my limbic system impairment, some of the types of art that I typically enjoy were out of my reach, so I found creativity with the most unusual of things.
THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX
--------------------------------------------------------
Have you heard of liquid Choline? It is a supplement that I used in a fun and creative way. It requires air drying to evaporate any alcohol; so after pouring it on a plate, I moved and tilted the plate until I saw an interesting design. Does it remind you of looking in the clouds to find animals and objects? Same concept.

In my temporary living space, I lacked many things that I was accustomed to in my home, so I began browsing a website called WISH to buy some household items. Much to my surprise, I noticed a good selection of art materials. I hit the jackpot! I found fun pads of paper called Scratch Art on the site! The paper is made with colors underneath a black coating. It comes with a little wooden stick that you can use to make your design by scratching away the black, revealing the colors below. BTW....there is a home recipe for this. If you are interested, I'll hook you up!
Scratch Art is an easy solution to creating vibrant designs. It simplifies the art making process because you only need to focus on creating the drawing and not which colors to use. As you draw, the colors come out to dazzle you!
Taking walks and being in nature also fueled my soul while I was in my temporary setting. I discovered that many people adorn their yard with statues. I began documenting them with my iPhone camera. This inspired me to create a focus and intention while exploring the neighborhoods and also getting exercise and fresh air.
What a simple and interesting project that is accessible to anyone that takes a stroll!
MY DAUGHTER'S DINNER TRAY
--------------------------------------------------------
I encourage you to find things in your everyday life that bring out your creativity. It can be as simple as the way you present food on a plate for dinner or singing in the shower. Find your inner child!
Buy some finger paints, a coloring book
or sidewalk chalk to express yourself.
